Stage 11

Stage 11.  The day started pretty wet (I turned on the shower, one with those body sprayers, and got drenched), but it never rained.  Then we had a pretty mellow ride to prepare for tomorrow.  I think tomorrow will be the hardest stage of the whole Tour.

The Spaniards caught me in the headwind and let me cruise the end of their train for about 30min, but then I ran out of food and needed a pit stop.  They're the only other people, in addition to Jerome (the Belgian I mentioned before) and I that are doing every stage this year.

The ride was over by around 6ish, but traffic and getting lost meant we didn't get in to the hotel until around 8ish.  Then our room had been flooded so they'd made arrangements for us at another hotel.  So we carried all the duffels and the bike about five blocks through downtown Toulouse to the new digs.  Then went and had more beers and an excellent steak.  And while we ate a huge thunder storm kicked up and soaked everyone eating outside, despite the tents.  The wind just blew it all in the side.  So we got a bit wet, then walked back to the hotel and got soaked on the walk.  So I had no choice but to have another beer and a bath.  And now it's about midnight, and I need to wake up at 530, so time to sleep!

167.6km in 6:29:25 for an avg speed of 25.9km/h and avg power of 114W (159W normalized).  The power meter crapped out for a bit, so the wattages might be off.

  1. Watch out for "spaniards", one of them might secretly be a roman general turned gladiator. #moviestaughtmeeverythingiknow

  3. Thinking of you on the next stage mate. You're the talk of the town back here in Van. Everybody is drawing pictures of you at trivia as we mention you every night.
Head office is asking how you're doing etc. It's really awesome. Go hard buddy! We are all following your awesomeness. Tell Bill he is doing a great job as well. It must be pretty hard for him, driving though the french country side and relaxing everyday while his son sweats it out pushing himself to the limits!
