After 9 straight days of riding I finally have a day off. Slept in and spent most of the day in bed. Dad was kind enough to do the laundry so I could watch the race on TV. I've done somewhere around 1600km over about 66 hours of riding. My legs are heavy and my taint has too many saddle sores (blisters).
We're in Fegiac, on a hotel along the river. I'm sitting out on the balcony enjoying my third latte of the day after a nice nap. It's a really nice evening here. I was raining this morning, so I was happy not to be gearing up to ride in it, and now I'm enjoying the nice breeze of a sunny evening. Can't complain!
I also finally got to watch a stage on TV. Yesterday's stage was a killer for me and it was sort of reassuring to see some of the pros feeling the pain too. They go faster, but I think I was suffering just as much at my amateur pace. Also pretty cool to see all the sights that I was speeding past. The helicopter shots sort of fill in the blanks a bit. And nice to drink beers and coffees instead of energy drinks!
The hotel room is looking more like a laundromat with clothes drying everywhere, but at least we'll stink less for the next few days! Gonna go eat downstairs along the river now. Probably have a few more beers. Then another soak in the tub and a stretch before bed. Back at it tomorrow, alarm set for 5am.
Great job, Pat! Enjoy your rest day! :)
ReplyDeleteHey PJ,
ReplyDeleteMum and I are in Paris, wishing you well! Some of the similarities between our trips so far... the beer and sandwiches.
So far, I have to say, Dad is doing a great job with the photos (Mum had some difficulty today).
We head for San Sebastian just after you start today's ride (Monday), then off to Pamplona to run with the bulls Tuesday/Wednesday! It's all been very, uh... Hemmingway-esk. Lunch today was at one of the places he used to frequent.
Anyway, we'll try to keep on following whenever there is WiFi. Keep up the great riding and posting!
